69 - Provide simple backup solution for IX Messaging
complete
Nick Kwiatkowski
Provide a tool or script to allow users to backup IX Messaging database, messages, greetings and announcements in a simple way, without requiring the use of a 3rd party tool (like Carbonate or Windows Server Backup). Tool should be able to generate a .tar.gz or .zip file that can be stored off-site and restored easily in the case of corruption or server failure. Script should also make sure the database is not corrupted during back (or restore).

Per Avaya, this request is delivered:
Customers can use their own backup tools, targeting these specific directories:
uc\logs folder
Database: EEAM21.db, EEAM21.log files from uc\db folder

The database can't be backed up while the system is running. This is a completely ineffective answer. It would require shutting down all services. A built-in backup mechanism is reasonable request.
Tom Lynn
Please consider providing backup directly to cloud providers such as Google Cloud Storage or Amazon S3

For standalone and HA server solutions, the databases are backed up daily into a windows folder automatically. With HA solutions, there is an added layer of resiliency where all the databases are synched in real-time across all server nodes. In R11.0 we are allowing the admin to add their own location on the network to send the backup files. Also in Release 11.0 we are providing an embedded UM HA solution thereby eliminating the need for Carbonite SW which only provides replication of the consolidated server. More information on backup can be found In the Server Configuration Guide, chapter 28, "UC Folder and File Structure." as well as p 261, under reorg that can include a backup before processing.
