341 - Employee Lookup

Currently, there isn't a way to easily see all departments listed in Avaya Workplace. I would like to have a drop-down option so I could choose a department to search. Example: we have an Assessors department. I would like to be able to have a drop-down option, to see all departments (Assessor, Treasurer, Sheriff, etc.). If this would be from the department filed under the user in System Manager, or in the Active Directory "Department" field either would be great. This would help Avaya be our phone book and not need a second application to be a phone book.

The IAUG volunteer team spoke with the Avaya product manager about this, and he demonstrated to us how in Workplace for Windows, you can absolutely enter a department name, or just a few characters of a department name, in that field, and only employees within that department will show up in the Search.
For example, if you just type "Smi" in the name search field, and "Huma" in the department field, you will get all the Smiths, Smithers, Smithees, et al, in the Human Resources department, or any other department that starts with "Huma." The more characters you type, the more refined results you'll get.
At this time they don't have plans to create dropdowns for departments. The IAUG team noted that Workplace is chiefly a communication tool rather than a enterprise organization tool.

This would be helpful when you have thousands of employees. You want to reach a person with the last name is Smith, but you know that specific person works in department X.
